KANSAS CITY, Mo. – March 5, 2024 – The Country Club Plaza is reeling from a recent jewelry heist that saw a high value worth of handcrafted jewelry stolen from a jewelry store.
The burglary, which occurred on Jan. 21, shortly after 6 a.m., has left the store manager, Tu Tran, feeling violated.
“Obviously someone had cased us, you know, had, and that’s what’s creepy is that knowing that somebody walked by or been in the store that you helped, that you looked in the face,” Tran said.
The jewelry store has been on The Plaza for over 35 years, but the recent burglary has shaken the small mom-and-pop store.
Tran believes that the subjects had cased the store before the crime, and police are now seeking information about a gray Nissan sedan that was spotted near the store around the time of the robbery.
The subjects stole around 30 items from the store, including sapphire rings, diamond earrings, necklaces, and a custom gold and tanzanite necklace.
The stolen items were all on display in the showcase window of the store, which has now been smashed and left in the shape of a broken heart.
“The robbery in the store is just another hit to the community,” Tran said. “It’s such a wonderful city.”
Tran is urging anyone with information about the robbery to come forward and is grateful for the community’s support.
