SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – August 15, 2024 – A man has been indicted related to the smash-and-grab burglary of a Southaven gun shop.
On Thursday, August 15, DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton announced that Key Guyland was indicted on charges of weapon trafficking, burglary of a commercial building, conspiracy and grand larceny.
The burglary happened at a business that sells jewelry on March 10, 2023. Along with the stolen jewelry, the thieves made off with 162 guns, authorities said. Barton said that Guyland was one of five people who took part in the heist. It took the group less than three minutes to burglarize the store.
“This indictment sends a clear message: if you come from Memphis or anywhere else to commit crimes in DeSoto County, we’re coming after you with everything we have,” Barton said in a press release. “Because of Southaven’s tremendous police work, we are going to pursue justice aggressively against Key and anyone else who conspired with him.â€Â
The district attorney said that Guyland was later arrested in Arkansas and was being held in an Arkansas prison. The Bureau of Alcohol , Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives offered a $5,000 reward for tips leading to the arrest of the people involved.
