Columbia, SC – November 7, 2017 – According to the Columbia Police Department, 49-year-old jeweler Gregory Wayne Gibson purchased $149,000 worth of stolen jewelry without a permit to buy jewelry.

Investigators say 40-year-old William Young sold the items to Gibson. Young stole the items during several burglaries from mid August to September, 2017.

Police say that Gibson’s permit to buy jewelry expired in 2015. They are still trying to determine if Gibson knew the items were stolen at the time he made the purchase.

Young was charged with seven counts of first degree burglary and five counts of receiving stolen goods.

Gibson was charged with 15 counts of first offense precious metals.
