On 11/19/19, the State Attorney’s Office in Florida announced that Joshua Shannon Graves was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Graves and two co-defendants committed a burglary of a jewelry store on April 29, 2017.

At the time of the burglary, two of the suspects broke into the store while the remaining suspect acted as a getaway driver. The owner of the jewelry store lived above the store. He heard the break-in, as well as the sound of display cases being smashed. The owner took his gun and went downstairs to confront the suspects. Upon confronting the suspects, the owner saw that they were holding a hammer and a crowbar. The suspects moved toward the owner. At that point, the owner fired his gun. One of the suspects was shot in the arm. Both of the suspects inside the store then fled with about $80,000 in jewelry. Graves and his co-defendants were eventually arrested in Alabama.
