On 8/13/2021, at approximately 3:45 p.m., a jewelry store associate was assisting two male subjects at the gold chain showcase. The team heard multiple loud noises in the mall that they believed came from a discharged firearm. The noise caused several mall patrons to run into the back of the store. The team members also-ran to the backroom. The mall was initially locked down. However, it was quickly determined, the noise resulted from someone lighting fireworks in the mall near the store. Upon exiting the backroom, the team member realized the gold chain showcase remained unlocked during the incident. Several gold chains were missing. The team member alerted mall security and the Nassau County Police Department. The police searched the perimeter of the store leading to the mall exit and recovered two gold chains.

The police investigation determined the two male subjects in the store, at the time of the incident, exited the mall and entered a black car with a third male subject believed to be the individual responsible for lighting the fireworks. The police also attempted to obtain fingerprints from the showcase. Additionally, it was reported the two male subjects had visited the store the previous day. The subjects alleged they could not speak English. They used a phone to communicate their interest in 14K or 18K yellow gold chains. The first subject was described as a Hispanic, 5’8”, in his mid 30’s, with a thin build, goatee, white t-shirt, and dark pants. The second subject is Hispanic, 5’10”, in his mid 30’s, and has a medium build. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, a face mask, and dark pants. A description of the third subject was not provided.
