On 9/23/21, at approximately 1:51 p.m., a subject wearing a white shirt told a retail jewelry consultant that he had been in the store three days prior, by himself, looking at gold chains. He was very talkative. He was asked if he had an account with the store, and he said that he did not, because he was going to pay in cash. He fanned out a large number of bills in front of the sales associate. It is thought that this is what the subject and his accomplice used to distract the sales associate. The subject placed a $100 bill on the counter and said that it would be a down payment to hold the item until he came back, but the sales associate returned it and told him that the store could not do that. The subjects were able to steal two gold chains during this interaction, without the sales associates’ knowledge.

This is the same group of middle-aged men that have targeted central/eastern North Carolina since early 2021. Be on the lookout for anyone working in pairs that are looking at the largest gold chains in the store.

The first subject is a Black male in his 40’s with short hair. The second subject is Black, middle-aged, and wore a multi-colored shirt. The second subject is taller than the first subject. If you have any information regarding these subjects, please contact the Jewelers’ Security Alliance at jsa2@jewelerssecurity.org or 212-687-0328.
