On 9/20/21, at approximately 9:30 am, a sales associate arrived to open a jewelry store kiosk and then began opening cabinets, cases, and unstacking the jewelry.� When she got to the gold chain cabinet, she noticed the key was not working. She then bent down to look and noticed the lock was tampered with.� The lock was facing the number 4 instead of it facing upright as it should. Once the cabinet was finally opened, she noticed the 10k and 14k chains were missing but the silver bonded chains were left behind.� The sales associate then opened all of the other cases, but didn’t find the gold chains in any other case.
The sales associate then notified her store manager then the Overland Park Police Department immediately afterward.� Video identified a lone subject who performed the burglary on Sunday, September 19th at 6:24 pm.� According to the investigating officer, it appeared the subject was inside the mall, possibly monitoring store staff closely, and waiting for the mall traffic to reduce before entering the kiosk.� Once departing the kiosk and exiting the mall, the subject entered the passenger side of an SUV van (a rental with a Florida license plate) before exiting mall property. The subject is believed to be a 20-year-old Blak male with a thin build. He was wearing all black.
