On 12/19/18, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina announced that five men had been indicted by a federal grand jury. The indicted suspects include 53-year-old Charles Anthony Walker jr., Joey Wayne Chambers, 23; Byron Jacobee Sparks, 25; Christopher Wellington Brown, 48 and Malik Shawn Maynard, 48. The suspects are accused of conspiring to rob a jewelry store in Elizabeth City, NC on 7/28/18 and another jewelry store in Garner, NC on 10/11/18. Walker is accused of aiding and abetting Brown and Maynard, who were armed during the robberies. Maynard, Brown, and Walker each face 33 years in prison.
