Convicted Robbers Sentenced to a Combined Total of 36.75 Years in Prison

Glendale, AZ – On March 16, 2022, four suspects committed a gunpoint smash and grab robbery at a jewelry store. Upon entering the store, the suspects ordered everyone to the ground. One of the suspects, identified as Kenneth Ray Walton Jr. held a taser, while a second man, identified as Monta Lamont Harris held the gun. Walton Jr., Harris, and their accomplices, Gary Wayne Freeny and Deandre Donte Haven, zip-tied employees who were laying on the ground.

While Harris pointed a gun at an employee’s head, the other suspects stole phones, car keys, and wallets. Haven then smashed display cases with a hammer. The suspects then began shoving jewelry into pillowcases.

Harris forced an employee to walk to a vault at gunpoint, where he then stole a large quantity of cash. The suspects realized the police were at the scene, and they tried to escape, but they were arrested.

Each of the suspects pleaded guilty to felony charges of one count of burglary in the first degree, and one count of armed robbery. On March 27, 2023, a judge sentenced Gary Wayne Freeny to 10.5 years in prison. Monta Lamont Harris was sentenced to 11.25 years in prison. Deandre Donte Haven was sentenced to 7 years in prison. Kenneth Ray Wilson Jr. was sentenced to 8 years in prison.

MANHATTAN, NY – SMASH AND GRAB

On 3/27/23, shortly before 2:30 p.m., two male subjects wearing masks entered a jewelry store. They used a weapon, which was described as “possibly a hammer”, to break cases inside the store. The subjects then removed merchandise and fled from the store. No physical description of the subjects was provided. GRAB AND RUN – MADISON, WI

On 3/22/23, at approximately 7:15 p.m., a retail jewelry store was the victim of a grab and run theft. A lone male entered the store at closing time under the pretense of shopping for an engagement ring. He was in the store earlier and stated his name was James. The subject stated he was looking for a bridal set of $10,000 or more. He was presented with different bridal set options. He was then shown diamond rings and wraps as another idea. The subject selected the 2ct diamond solitaire and a diamond rose gold wrap to take a picture of. Once he gained possession of both pieces, the subject fled the store. The subject was described as a Black male with a dark complexion. He is believed to be in his late 30’s or 40’s. He is 6’4″, and has a thin build. He weighs approximately 160 lbs. He was last seen wearing a dark hat, denim jacket, gloves, a mask, dark baggy pants, and Air Jordan tennis shoes. 7 SUBJECTS ARRESTED AFTER SMASH & GRAB – MANHATTAN BEACH, CA

On 3/22/22, at approximately 6:00 p.m., a jewelry store experienced its second smash and grab robbery in less than a year. In the most recent robbery, several subjects entered the store and used hammers to break display cases. They then fled the store with various merchandise and entered awaiting vehicles. The subjects were reportedly armed with handguns, but no shots were fired. At approximately 7:25 p.m., officers from the Manhattan Beach Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle, that was believed to be involved in the crime. The driver did not stop, and a police pursuit then ensued. The pursuit ended in Los Angeles, CA and resulted in five arrests. Two additional subjects were arrested in a separate traffic stop. DISTRACTION THEFT – CHERRY HILL, NJ

On 3/14/23, at approximately 4:30 pm two male subjects entered a jewelry store.� They shopped for several items ultimately settling on 9 different items.� The items were rung up and placed in one box per the subjects’ request.� Subject 1 produced a large amount of cash and handed it over.� It was counted and determined to be short.� As the cash was being counted, the subject took the box to show the items to his friend.� When he was confronted with the short cash, he handed the box back and the cash was returned to him to be recounted. In this process, he then purchased a single item for $525.� Which he paid in cash.� He indicated that he would return later with the correct amount of cash to finish the purchase of the other items.� At the end of the shift, the drawer was counted to be $300 short.� Counts on the cases at the end of the day indicated that items were missing and determined to be those in the box that were not purchased.� When the box was opened to add those items back to the count, it was discovered that four were missing.�

ATTEMPTED SMASH & GRAB – SAN DIEGO, CA

On 3/15/23, at 3:26 p.m., three subjects entered a jewelry store and asked to see earrings and gold chains.� Based on demonstrated suspicious behaviors, store staff contacted mall security, yet prior to their arrival, the subjects exited the store.� Shortly after, the subjects returned and after browsing for approximately 5-10 minutes, subject #1 began to slam the showcase containing gold with a large rubber mallet.� As mall security approached the store, subjects #2 & #3 fled the store, while approximately 10 seconds later, subject #1 also fled the store without taking any gold jewelry out of the smashed showcase.�

Subject #1 �” Black or mixed-race male, 18-22 years old, 6’0”, slim build.� He was last seen wearing a black beanie, a grey Nike hoodie, matching pants, and red shoes.

Subject #2 �” Black male, 18-22 years old, 6’0”, slim build, with a goatee.� He was last seen wearing a black & red sweatsuit with a butterfly on the front of his pants.

Collegiate Athlete Stole More Than $500K From Jewelry Employer

Burlington, MA – On March 8, 2023, 19-year-old Ariel Foster was arrested in her dorm room at Lasalle University. An investigation into Foster started on February 22, 2023. The investigation revealed she profited hundreds of thousands of dollars by marking up the price of items sold at the jewelry store where she worked. She would then refund the difference to her credit card.

Foster made eight transactions over the course of 3 days at the jewelry store where she worked. Foster, who had studied criminal justice, used the ill-gotten proceeds to purchase a $35,000 Tesla, $20,000 for a hotel in Maui, Hawaii, approximately $6,000 in fees at Delta Airlines, and close to $5,000 spent on a Louis Vuitton purse.

Joshua Nichols

Son of Oklahoma City Bombing Accomplice Pleads Guilty to Kidnapping and Robbing Jeweler

Las Vegas, NV – On March 15, 2023, Joshua Nichols, 40, the son of Oklahoma City Bombing accomplice Terry Nichols, pleaded guilty to armed robbery and the kidnapping of a 67-year-old jeweler.

On February 6, 2020, a jeweler was lured into a home by Joshua Nichols, George William Moya III, and a female subject. Prior to the robbery, Moya III laid costume jewelry on a kitchen table. The jeweler then heard a noise. The jeweler soon learned it was the slide of a handgun behind him. Nichols aimed a gun at the side of the jeweler’s head. Nichols then ordered the jeweler to remove his jacket and pants.

Nichols stole $1,700 in cash from the jeweler’s wallet. He also stole the jeweler’s bracelets, rings, and other items.

Nichols was arrested on March 12, 2020. Nichols and Moya III each accepted plea deals to avoid trial, which would have started in April 2023. Nichols faces a minimum of 5 years in prison, but he could receive a sentence of over 17 years imprisonment. Nichols’ accomplice Moya III also pleaded guilty to robbery with a deadly weapon.

Nichols is the son of Terry Nichols, 65, who is serving a lifetime prison sentence for aiding Timothy McVeigh in committing a bombing at a federal building in Oklahoma City, OK in 1995, which resulted in 168 people being killed.

SMASH AND GRAB – ORLANDO, FL

On 3/14/23, at approximately 4:25 p.m. two male subjects approached a jewelry kiosk in a mall. One of the subjects pulled out a hammer and started to smash the gold showcase. A team member yelled at the subject to stop, and the subject “giggled”. The smashing produced a small hole in the case and the subject reached in and grabbed seven chains. After reaching in, the subject noticed his arm and hand were bleeding and the two fled.

Subject Descriptions: Hispanic male, 5’6, thin, appeared and sounded very young – 16 to 18 years old, wearing a white hoodie, jeans, sneakers and a ski mask. Hands were uncovered.

ARMED ROBBERY – ALBUQUERQUE, NM

On 03/06/23, at 5:56 p.m., an armed robbery occurred at a retail jewelry store.� A male subject entered the location alone and under the pretense of shopping,� began looking at different cases. The subject began asking about gold crosses. The team member assisting reported the male subject then brandished a firearm and demanded three of the crosses. The team member complied and the subject then fled the store. There were no reports of physical injury.�

Subject(s) Description: Hispanic male, approximately 18 to 26 years old. Approximately 5’6″ to 5’9″. He has a medium build and weighs about 160 lbs. He was last seen wearing a red hoody, a black multicolor mask, and black and white jogging pants.
