On 2/9/17, at approximately 11:45 a.m., a male suspect requested to see diamond rings in yellow gold and white gold. During the sales presentation, the suspect had one ring in his possession and the sales associate held the other. The suspect then reached over the counter and grabbed the ring from the sales associate’s hand. He then fled from the store. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his late 20’s. He is 5’9†and weighs 230 pounds. He has a medium complexion and was last seen wearing a dark baseball hat with a dark button down shirt, blue jeans and sneakers. GRAB AND RUN – CAMBRIDGE, MA
On 2/3/17, at approximately 1:25 p.m., a male suspect asked to see engagement rings. He stated he was looking to spend 4 to 5 thousand dollars. As the suspect was examining a ring, he received a phone call. He proceeded to move to another showcase. At that point, the sales associate requested to have the ring returned. The suspect turned and fled from the store with the ring. He was described as a 25-year-old Black male. He has a light complexion and is 5’4.†He also has a thin build and a long goatee beard. Denville, NJ – On February 4, 2017 three suspects entered a retail jewelry store and were identified from a Jewelers’ Security Alliance Crime Alert. They were subsequently arrested.
Jeweler Arrested for Stealing from Customers
Irvine, CA – On February 7, 2016 27-year-old Daniel Cervantes was charged with grand theft for allegedly stealing his customers’ property.
ARMED ROBBERY – BROOKLYN, NY
On 2/6/17, at approximately 1:15 p.m., a suspect entered the store and then pounded on display cases and told sales associates he was there to rob them. The suspect then pulled out a knife. He went behind the counter and wanted the sales associates to open the register. All the sales associates backed away from the suspect and the register. Mall security arrived shortly thereafter and disarmed the suspect. The suspect was arrested by police.
DISTRACTION THEFT – BRAINTREE, MA
On 2/4/17, at approximately 5:15 p.m., two suspects looked at several items including, bracelets, chains, watches and sapphire bracelets. The suspects stated the items were wedding gifts and would be given away as souvenirs. After the suspects selected various items they were brought to the register. Once there, the suspects requested to have merchandise wrapped separately by category. They also wanted items placed in pouches and then into a series of bags which needed to be stapled. One of the suspects reached into the bag and explained how he wanted the pouches to be arranged. The price of the items was $30,000. The suspects only presented $7,000. After the manager finished counting the money, the suspects said they would return with more money, but never did. After the suspects left, the manager opened the bags and discovered the pouch containing gold merchandise was missing. Both suspects were described as Middle Eastern men. They are approximately 40-years-old. One suspect is 5’9†and has a medium build. He wore a grey cap and black jacket with red leather shoes. The second suspect is 5’11†and has a heavy build. He has a patterned cap, black jacket and red shirt. He also has gold teeth. SNEAK THEFT – HOUSTON, TX
On 1/31/17, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a suspect cut the security cable attached to a plexiglass display box. The box contained two watches. After cutting the cord, the suspect conversed with a sales associate about pearl items. The suspect then left the sales associate to take a phone call. As he was on the phone, he walked towards the display box. At this point the sales associate were distracted and attending to other matters. The suspect took this opportunity to remove the plexiglass box from the counter and exit the store. The theft was observed on surveillance footage. The suspect was described as a 6 foot tall black male. He has a thin build and was last seen wearing a white hat with a dark colored shirt.
