NASHVILLE, TN – Gun pulled on employees who stop $9K theft at Nashville jewelry store

Nashville, TN – — A Nashville jewelry store staff stopped a robber before they were about to close up shop. However, they told News 2 that it wasn’t the first time they’d been targeted.

On Friday, 38-year-old Joshua Calvo allegedly walked into Peacock Jewelers in South Nashville and told the owners he wanted to sell them a piece of jewelry. Staff told News 2 he had asked them to start a custom-designed piece as a distraction.

They said he came into and out of the store multiple times, and waited until they were about to lock up for the night before pulling out a gun.

“When he tried to pull the gun on us, one of the security guards that he didn’t realize was here went to the front door — preventing him from leaving — and there was another security guard in the back that he didn’t realize was there,” store co-owner Joey Nunley said.

Calvo was allegedly stealing watch straps, the owners told News 2, and he had also slipped a $31,000 one-of-a-kind pendant into his sleeve. Staff members told him to put the gun down; when Calvo turned, a security guard tackled him to the ground and subdued him until he could be arrested by an officer with the Metro Nashville Police Department.

“Had we not had the security here that night, I don’t think we would have made it,” Nunley said. “I think he would have either killed us or worse — put us in a situation where we were locked up in the safe or something where we couldn’t breathe.”

Court records obtained by News 2 showed that Calvo had been arrested for felony burglary in 2014, 2015 and 2017. Calvo has also been repeatedly arrested for theft.

It’s also the second time the 21st Avenue business has been targeted by thieves. In 2021, robbers stole $25,000 in jewelry. That loss wasn’t recovered. However this time, they were able to get the pendant back.

The owners told News 2 they’re working to increase their security measures by installing more panic buttons throughout the store.

“I’m just thankful that no one was hurt and that this individual is now in the hands of the police and it hopefully stays that way for a long time,” Paul Wilson, a co-owner at Peacock Jewelers said.

Calvo has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and theft in connection with this case. The co-owners also told News 2 that they had written the District Attorney’s Office and asked for Calvo to be charged to the fullest extent of the law.

Westland, MI- Westland man arrested after allegedly trying to pawn necklace he stole from jewelry store the same day.

WESTLAND, Mich. – A man is facing federal charges after allegedly stealing from a jewelry store in Westland and trying to pawn a necklace he stole the same day. Police responded to a jewelry store on Warren Road in Westland on April 15, 2025, at around 2:30 p.m. for a report of an armed robbery.

Victims described the suspect as a man in his 50s or 60s wearing a blue shirt, black coat, red hat, glasses and carrying a purple Xfinity bag. Court documents said the suspect is seen on surveillance footage entering the store multiple times throughout the day.

According to witnesses, he identified himself under a fake name and inquired about lab-created diamonds while making small talk with employees. John Talerico faces two federal charges—Hobbs Act robbery and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence.

Long Beach, CA- Robbery at Long Beach Jewelry Store, Suspects at Large.

Long Beach, CA- The incident happened around 12:40 p.m. at Gems and Jewels, located at 4130 Atlantic Avenue.

Witnesses say the robbery began when a young woman walked into the store and used pepper spray. Moments later, five to six men jumped out of an SUV and stormed inside. The entire robbery was over in less than a minute.

One store employee was possibly shot during the chaos, according to witnesses. Their condition has not yet been confirmed.

Police have not released information on what, if anything, was taken, and no suspect descriptions have been made public. The robbery remains under investigation.

Westland, MI– On April 15, 2025, a Jewelry store reported a robbery after a lone male entered the store numerous times throughout the day to view various rings. The suspect returned once again and after being in the store for just over an hour, the suspect produced a weapon and quietly told the employee to place the rings in a bag he carried with him. The suspect then told the employee to go over to another showcase and place numerous other items into his bag as well. The employee was then asked to go the cash register and remove the cash inside. The employee and another employee were then told to go into the back room. As soon as they entered the small office, the suspect pulled out a can of an aerosol irritant and sprayed it at one of the employees before fleeing on foot.

Suspect(s) Description: the suspect is described as an older European white male in his late 60s to early 70s. The suspect was well dressed with leather dress shoes, black slacks, black shirt, black tie and a black suit jacket. The suspect also wore a black three-quarter length overcoat. The suspect appeared to wear prescription glasses and a po’boy hat -burnt orange in color. The suspect appeared to have a pinky ring in walked with his feet turned outwards.

Long Beach, CA- Robber Sentenced To 7 Years For $2.6M Beverly Hills Jewelry Heist

LONG BEACH, CA – A Long Beach man was sentenced today to seven years in federal prison for his role in robbing more than $2.6 million in merchandise from a Beverly Hills Jewelry Store in 2022.

Ladell Tharpe, 39, and several other accomplices robbed the Luxury Jewels of Beverly Hills store in March 2022, according to prosecutors.

The 39-year-old, along with Long Beach residents Deshon Bell, 22, Jimmy Lee Vernon III, 33, and an unnamed minor, used sledgehammers and crowbars to break into the jewelry cases at the store.

“Brazen criminal action that directly targets our small businesses in Los Angeles County will not be tolerated,” said Acting United States Attorney Joseph McNally. “The consequences for such action are severe and penalized accordingly, and I want to thank our law enforcement partners for their exceptional and dutiful work during this investigation.”

Prosecutors say the robbery crew took off with at least 19 bracelets, seven pairs of earrings, four necklaces, a pair of obelisks, eight rings, and 20 watches that were valued at just over $2.67 million.

Tharpe posted a photo two days after the crime, flaunting large amounts of cash with the caption “robbery gang,” according to prosecutors. Authorities were further able to tie the men to the crime after finding Vernon’s cellphone at the store, which fell out of his pocket during the robbery, prosecutors said.

Tharpe, who has been in federal custody since March 2023, according to prosecutors, pleaded guilty last September to one count of interference with commerce by robbery.

Vernon has since been sentenced to just under seven years in federal prison after pleading guilty to one count of Hobbs Act robbery. Bell, who served as the getaway driver, also pleaded guilty to one count of Hobbs Act robbery but received a lesser sentence of one year and one day in federal prison.

Tharpe, Vernon and Bell have each been ordered by a federal judge to pay $2,674,000 in restitution.

Westchester County, NY- Two sledgehammer-wielding thugs who helped jack $1.7 million in jewelry and watches — including 70 Rolexes — in a brazen Westchester County heist were nabbed in New Jersey on Tuesday, the feds said.

Kevin Williams, 26, Byron Wilson, 24, and two cohorts drove a stolen dark blue Jeep Grand Cherokee from Jersey to the Westchester Square shopping plaza in Hartsdale around 11 a.m. Dec. 16, according to a statement from acting US Attorney Matthew Podolsky of the Southern District of New York.

The criminals, dressed all in black and carrying hammers, stormed a jewelry store there and began smashing display cases as shocked customers and workers cowered in fear, authorities said.

The masked bandits snatched up pricey pieces that included diamonds, rings, necklaces, earrings and luxury watches — including the Rolexes worth more than $1 million all on their own, officials said.

Then, they hustled to their stolen Jeep — with their bags of illicit loot in tow — and hightailed it back to the Garden State, Podolsky said.

nvestigators tracked their cell phones afterward and found that while Wilson returned to their shared home in Irvington, NJ — a city of about 60,000 just west of Newark — Williams took a trip to the Diamond District in Midtown Manhattan.

A few hours later, the poaching pair posed with their co-conspirators for pictures in which they all held fat stacks of cash, the statement said.

Wilson also was busy researching the phrase “hartsdale news” on his phone and reading articles about the heist, including one titled, “Tarrytown Jewelers in Hartsdale victim of robbery in broad daylight,” officials said.

He Googled “tudor geneve watch,” too — apparently to try to learn more about some of the costly items the gang had stolen, the feds said.

But his and Williams’ luck ran out Tuesday when they were collared and charged with two federal counts involving conspiracy to commit robbery.

Each count brings with it a maximum of 20 years in prison.

The pair were set to be arraigned Tuesday in White Plains federal court.

“As alleged, Kevin Williams and Byron Wilson, along with their co-conspirators, carried out the violent robbery of a jewelry store in broad daylight,” Podolsky said.

“Armed with sledgehammers, the defendants smashed their way in and then plundered the store of about $1.7 million in jewelry, diamonds, and luxury watches, all while innocent customers and employees hid for their safety.

“Today’s arrests should make clear that if you commit such brazen and dangerous crimes in this District, we will find you and hold you responsible.”

Downey, California– Three men have been arrested in connection with a January armed robbery and kidnapping at a Downey jewelry store.

The robbery took place on Jan. 11, at Gold Dream Fire Jewelry on the 7600 block of Firestone Boulevard.

According to the Downey Police Department, two men entered the store and asked to see some merchandise, but as the sales associate was tending to them, one of the suspects tackled and gagged the associate, brandished a firearm and forced them into a back room while the other suspect ransacked the store.

More than $100,000 in gold, jewelry and designer watches were taken from the store, investigators said.

Photos released from inside the store showed the terrifying crime unfold, including images of one of the suspects holding a gun to the head of the employee.

Downey detectives eventually focused in on three suspects from Long Beach, and with the help of the Long Beach Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, warrants were served undisclosed locations in Long Beach and Inglewood.

During the execution of those warrants, three men were taken into custody: Christian Javier Trujillo Culqui, 30; Daniel Alexander Medina Mera, 31; and Jonny Israel Marcillo Alcivar, 31.

Evidence “indicating their involvement in the crime” was also recovered, police said.

All three are currently in police custody and have been charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with armed robbery and kidnapping.

SOUTH SACRAMENTO, CA – Four suspects have been arrested in connection to a robbery at a jewelry store in south Sacramento where deputies said a woman died after she was inadvertently shot.

On Nov. 15, around 11:45 a.m., deputies responded to Kim Tin Jewelry on Stockton Boulevard, where they contacted the store owner and found his 58-year-old wife suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Deputies said the woman was taken to the hospital where she later died.

The suspects were able to get away with stolen items and have been on the run for months.

But on Friday, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said four suspects have been arrested in connection with the robbery.

During an investigation, deputies said they learned a group of about a dozen suspects forced their way into the jewelry store by breaking the front door.

The suspects smashed display cases using hammers and pickaxes, taking a large amount of jewelry, deputies said.

Detectives then learned the store owner began shooting at the suspects. This is when the owner’s wife was inadvertently shot.

A suspect was also shot, but they were able to get away.

Deputies said they eventually arrested three brothers: 22-year-old Nethaniel Fuimaono of Concord, 19-year-old Sonny Fuimaono of Suisun City and 28-year-old Aaron Fuimaono of San Francisco. Hanson Dang, a 19-year-old from Suisun City, was also arrested.

Deputies said Nethaniel and Sonny were armed with handguns when they were arrested.

According to jail records, Aaron was booked on robbery and conspiracy charges. Nethaniel was booked on grand theft, organized retail theft, robbery and firearm charges. Sonny was booked on robbery and carrying a loaded gun charges. Dang was booked into jail on a robbery charge.

Aaron’s bail was set at $1 million while the other three suspects are not eligible for bail, jail records show.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing and is looking to make more arrests in connection with the robbery.
