Video shows smash-and-grab robbers at Citrus Heights, California jeweler

CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA – March 11, 2024 – Authorities are searching for three subjects in a smash-and-grab robbery at a Citrus Heights jeweler. It happened during the early afternoon Sunday at a jewelry store inside of a mall.

The owner of the business released footage of the robbery from a security camera, which shows the subjects using hammers to break into cases. He opted not to speak on camera because he feared retaliation from the group of subjects.

A spokesperson for the Citrus Heights Police Department said the thieves broke into cases containing gold and diamonds. It was not yet clear exactly how much was stolen.

Of the three subjects seen in the video, only one’s face is shown. The other two were wearing face coverings. All three subjects were men, police said.

All three subjects left the area in a blue sedan and headed north down Sunrise Boulevard, the spokesperson said.

The owner of the jewelry store said he’s been targeted by thieves at multiple locations of his business and fears he won’t be able to come back from this. No one was injured during the robbery.

New video shows dramatic moments of attempted armed robbery inside Myrtle Beach jewelry store

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – March 8, 2024 – New surveillance video obtained by News13 shows the dramatic moments of an attempted armed robbery inside a Myrtle Beach jewelry store in February 2023.

Michael James Alexander Perez – J. Reuben Long Detention Center

Michael James Alexander Perez, 34, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to armed robbery and was sentenced to 13 years in prison, according to the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. He must serve 85% of his sentence before being eligible for supervised release.

Perez entered a jewelry store and presented a loaded pistol at the staff and demanded they open their Rolex case.

“It was fast, I saw a guy on the security camera coming through the front door literally with a gun out in his hand,” owner Jacob Medina said.

Medina said it only took about 20 seconds until Perez was on top of him. And with his gun out, he said defending himself was his first instinct.

“He had his gun out when he walked in and he loaded it, racked around as he was coming through the front door,” Medina said. “And I believe he said ‘get the Rolexes out’ or something to that effect.”

Medina said he shot six times, hitting Perez twice in the torso, once in each wrist and one that went through the side of his face. He said Perez shot about four times, thankfully missing him and other employees.

“You don’t even have time to think,” Medina said. “I just, it was a fight-or-flight response and obviously I chose to fight.”

Perez then got on a motorcycle driven by someone else after he was shot and was taken to South Strand Hospital before being taken in an ambulance to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, according to a report obtained by News13. The person who dropped him off left.

Myrtle Beach police told News13 on Wednesday that it is still an active investigation to identify the motorcycle driver.

15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson said police reports showed no co-defendants.

“In this case, there was only one,” he said. “That could’ve been for a number of reasons. Maybe they couldn’t tie the motorcyclist back to the robbery.”

Jewelry store robbed after being burglarized in January; owners say they will close

CHICAGO, IL – March 2, 2024 – A Northwest Side jewelry store was robbed Friday, Chicago police said. The crime was caught on surveillance video. The owners of the store said after 30 years in business enough is enough, and they’re planning to close down for good. This was the second incident in the past month for the jewelry store.

Surveillance video shows a gray car park in front of the store around 5 p.m. Friday. A man wearing sunglasses and a hat gets out and enters the store. The owners said he was asking about chains.

A second man in a hoodie then got out of the same car and, when he opens the front door, the man inside lunges over the counter and snatches as many chains as he could grab. The two then escape in the car as the workers inside huddled together in fear.

“He jumped over the counter. He pushed me to the wall. I bumped from the wall to opposite side. I start bleeding from my nose, and I wasn’t sure if he had a weapon or not. What was going to happen to us next?” said manager Halina Gielczynska. In a January burglary, it happened when the store was closed; the suspect in that incident smashed through several display cases before getting away with tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry.

“What do you think? It’s like a little bit more than a month and we are again in trouble. How often are we going to get robbed?” Gielczynska said. In Friday’s robbery, no one is currently in custody.

‘Another hit’: Longtime Kansas City jewelry store still reeling after high value burglary

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – March 5, 2024 – The Country Club Plaza is reeling from a recent jewelry heist that saw a high value worth of handcrafted jewelry stolen from a jewelry store.

The burglary, which occurred on Jan. 21, shortly after 6 a.m., has left the store manager, Tu Tran, feeling violated.

“Obviously someone had cased us, you know, had, and that’s what’s creepy is that knowing that somebody walked by or been in the store that you helped, that you looked in the face,” Tran said.

The jewelry store has been on The Plaza for over 35 years, but the recent burglary has shaken the small mom-and-pop store.

Tran believes that the subjects had cased the store before the crime, and police are now seeking information about a gray Nissan sedan that was spotted near the store around the time of the robbery.

The subjects stole around 30 items from the store, including sapphire rings, diamond earrings, necklaces, and a custom gold and tanzanite necklace.

The stolen items were all on display in the showcase window of the store, which has now been smashed and left in the shape of a broken heart.

“The robbery in the store is just another hit to the community,” Tran said. “It’s such a wonderful city.”

Tran is urging anyone with information about the robbery to come forward and is grateful for the community’s support.

ALBAWABA, EGYPT – February 28 2024 – Security forces have managed the capture the person who is responsible for the tragic killing of jewelry store owner, Hosni Al-Khanagry, who was robbed of his gold possessions earlier this week. Following the theft, the perpetrator was captured and taken to a local police station, where he will need to await further legal action to see what his fate is.

Within just 24 hours of the tragic incident, Egyptian authorities were able to identify the assailant by going over surveillance footage from nearby streets and shops in the area where the crime happened to take place. With the use of the surveillance footage, the culprit’s whereabouts were able to be determined, leading to his arrest, with plans to present him before the public prosecution on Wednesday.

Suspect arrested in one armed robbery; also charged in similar case 100 miles away

Ocala, Florida – February 21, 2024 – Police have arrested a man who they say robbed a northeast Ocala jewelry store a week ago. Authorities said the man, Michael Deon Woulard, is a suspect in a similar jewelry holdup in another county that took place several months ago. Ocala Police Detective Denise Drake and Jacksonville officials interviewed Woulard last week about the jewelry store robberies. Local officials said Woulard admitted to committing the crime at the jewelry store in Ocala. He told detectives he committed the robberies because he wanted money, according to an arrest affidavit.

Woulard was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and Gainesville authorities after a traffic stop on Feb. 21, the day after the Ocala armed robbery.

A search warrant for the vehicle Woulard was driving at the time he was detained was obtained. Detectives said they recovered a large amount of jewelry from the vehicle. Detective Austin Ridge of the Ocala Police Department assisted Drake with the investigation.

Ocala officials said they don’t think Woulard was involved in two jewelry heists at the Paddock Mall that occurred in late January and early February. On Feb. 20, the day before Woulard’s arrest, Ocala police officers said a man, believed to be Woulard, entered the jewelry store in Ocala. T

Police said the robber wore dark clothing and a face covering. Armed with a firearm, the man ordered two employees into the bathroom, then broke display cases and removed large amount of jewels. The robber fled and police were called.

During the investigation, detectives were made aware of a similar robbery in Jacksonville. Jacksonville authorities were contacted. Investigators found similarities in the crimes and the description of the gunman.

Authorities in Jacksonville had DNA evidence that they say linked Woulard to their holdup. Due to the connection, detectives from both Jacksonville and Ocala combined their resources to apprehend Woulard.

A warrant for Woulard’s arrest was issued on Feb. 26 for robbery, false imprisonment, drug possession and tampering with evidence. He also has a warrant from Duval County for robbery.

Criminal record

The Ocala store was closed from Feb. 20 until Feb. 23. An armed security guard was in the store when the Star-Banner reporter visited the business on Tuesday. Asked if the store always had security, the woman told the reporter she could not answer that question.

Police officials they have not specifically assigned any personnel to the store and believe the armed guard is privately retained by the store.

Though Woulard does not have a criminal record in Marion County, state documents show he has been in and out of prison since July 2011 for various crimes such as drug trafficking. According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement website, Woulard is a designated sexual predator with convictions for lewd or lascivious exhibition on a victim younger than 16 in Duval County.
